Anna Sui heads down the Nile
September 14th 2008 05:19
New York designer Anna Sui unveiled her Spring '09 collection at New York Fashion Week last night with vivid splashes of colour and plenty of bold prints.
Sui said her latest collection was inspired by a trip to the home of the pyramids, and it showed - there were hieroglyphic designs and large, elaborately gemmed necklaces enough to make Cleopatra proud.
The black and white bolero jacket with the matadorian headress aside, there is plenty to like about this collection. But keep an eye out for the price tags, they're sure to be impressive.
Soft, feminine shapes with plenty of frills and lacy detail were featured by several designers throughout the week.
Twenty-seven year old Zac Posen made a big impression with his spring creations, which featured soft, floating fabrics in pastel colours.
But even he couldn't escape the curse of the black lace, with one skirt that could only be described as a black beehive.
Unfortunately the stand-out piece in Posen's collection was paired with what even I in my footwear faux pas status would term the wrong pair of shoes.
But then again, if Zac Posen is as good as they say, maybe I've been wearing the right shoes all along.
Next stop in the spring fashionpalooza: London, England.
