Comment Etiquette???
October 5th 2006 03:26
Don't laugh. This isn't meant to be a tongue-in-cheek question. It's quite legitimate, if you're at all into leaving comments on blogs. For that matter, it's a good thing to know if you only say something once in a while.
Sometimes I find myself going a back and forth with one person. If it's a good give and take, how much is too much? Obviously, it should stop before it becomes too private a conversation and other people feel uncomfortable about jumping in. But no one ever said that four's enough, six is pushing it, eight is quite out of hand.
And how about when a bunch of people are commenting and someone comes in out of the blue and says something someone else said way back in the beginning? Does the new question get ignored?, pointed out as redundant?, laid open to ridicule?
Or, and this can be a real sticky one. When it gets to the point where nothing is left to say, what's the best thing to say? Something like, "gotta go, someone's at the door" simply doesn't cut it. But no one says anything at all and shouldn't we? If we're on the phone and I have nothing more to say, I wouldn't simply hang up.
I suppose I could ponder this subject for a while longer or I could go out and get a life.

Great post!
Yes, I've made some Orble friends on this site, and comments can just keep on going!
I find myself returning to the pages, over and over, for a reply comment...now that is sad.
