Facelift!
September 10th 2008 05:39
Welcome to the new Head for Threads!
Today we shift our focus from history, science and anthropology to the colourful world of couture.
As someone who never knows what to wear, and who is known for the occasional footwear faux pas, I am frequently bamboozled by the world of fashion. Eighty per cent of it wouldn't fit or look good on the average female in a million years. And even if by some miracle we could pull it off, most of us will never be able to afford it - the closest we'll come is a very tidy imitation made by some poor Thai grandmother for 20 cents.
Nevertheless, doe-eyed waifs with legs up to here chasse down the catwalk year after year, wearing (or in many cases, not wearing) weird and wonderful collections of "it" clothing.
I don't know how well I'll keep up, but the next few weeks should make for some interesting commentary, as spring fashion season gets underway on the runways of New York, Paris, Milan and London.
