Flats are back

August 28th 2009 05:44
Good news for ladies with feet ravaged by stilettos - flats are back.

Yes, according to The Times of London, heels are dead and flats are on the rise as women's fashion steers towards a more androgynous look. Your achilles tendons can breathe a sigh of relief and learn to stretch themselves out again.

Parisian Ballet flats have a gorgeous range of designs to choose from, including some that even tie up like ballet shoes!

And yet somehow I doubt Blahnik and Louboutin will go out of business....

Bag this!

July 3rd 2009 04:30
The Real Weddings blog recently featured some gorgeous bags from the upcoming Spencer and Rutherford collection, "Into the Wilderness", and I just had to share them with you.

Spencer and Rutherford

The Harlow bag in nettle above is one of my faves, as is the Kylie bag in Heavenly below:

The range also includes some beautifully bright florals, and a gorgeous luggage collection, but since my computer is playing up and won't let me upload any more images, you'll have to head to the Real Weddings blog, or the Spencer and Rutherford site to have a good sticky beak.

It was just one of eighteen pairs of gorgeous ruby slippers created by some of the world's most renowned designers to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the film The Wizard of Oz. Sadly, the exhibition has now moved on, but for those who missed it, you can drool over the eye candy below...

A power outage in Sydney this morning put a sudden halt to the Zimmerman show at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

Luxe accessories

During a visit to L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival last month, Head For Threads fell in love with the Obus Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, and its use of sapphire blues, golds, browns, greens, yellows and oranges - perfect autumn colours!

Autumn Accessories

With the weather becoming chillier by the day, it's the perfect time add colourful accessories to your outfit to warm you up and brighten your day.

Dotti's Rose Flower Beanie would look cute with pastels and florals in floaty fabrics, denim, or a nice snug knit:

How to wear a white shirt

April 8th 2009 06:18
Polo Ralph Lauren

Was down at cheap clothing Mecca - also known as Savers in Brunswick - on the weekend, and turned up a few more fabulous bargains: a strapless, apricot-coloured Kookai dress for $10, a fitted black Portmans dress for $15, and - the buy of the day - a brand-spanking-new Polo Ralph Lauren fitted white shirt.... for $10. If I could put the caps lock on numbers, I would.

It's been a while between posts, but we're back with a big one! Head for Threads was invited to LMFF last night to watch the Paris Runway Four show, sponsored by InStyle.

Nevenka – plenty of purples, polka dots, and flowing prints, combined with the blackest, chunkiest heaviest shoes (RMK) you have ever seen. One particularly skeletal model looked to be struggling to pick up her feet. My advice: eat, and grow some muscle. Semi- shuffling with a massive forward pelvis-tilt is not so attractive.

Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2009

February 18th 2009 05:30
The economic outlook may be bleak, but the fashion outlook is not, if Marc Jacobs' autumn/winter 2009 collection is anything to go by. Bright colours and boxy shapes were the order of the day, as 60 models strolled down the catwalk during the 10 minute show. It'll be interesting to see if the lurid poncho-capes work their way into the high street shops in time for our winter (heaven forbid)....

Designer Con

Footwear giant Converse is taking giant steps towards fighting HIV, AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis in Africa through its 1HUND(RED) Artists range. Converse commissioned 100 artists from around the world including musicians The Edge (U2) and Lupe Fiasco, and artists Jeremyville (Australia) and Andrew Mania (UK) to design shoes for the collection, with ten percent of the net wholesale price of each pair going towards the purchase and distribution of anti-retroviral medicines in Africa. The Andrew Mania design, seen here with supermodel Giselle Bundchen on the latest edition of Hong Kong Elle, reads "This is not a shoe" on one side, and "It's a Mania", on the other.

Haute Couture Wrap

February 3rd 2009 00:23
Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris last week gave the economic downturn a defiant flick of its middle figure, with reems of gorgeous fabrics wrapping themselves around the waify startled-looking models. The only sign of any conservatism was in the colour palettes of some designers - whites, greys, beiges and tans were common, interspersed with the occasional flash of blue or yellow. Christian Lacroix on the other hand couldn't be bothered with the beige, instead prefering a triumphant collage of colours, prints and fabrics with a healthy dose of bold accessories. Valentino offered a highly texturised collection, featuring elaborate scrolls, and beautiful teal and aqua hues. But the standout collection would have to be that of Georges Hobeika with its elaborate ballgowns in rich pastel colours.
