Haute Couture Wrap
February 3rd 2009 00:23
Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris last week gave the economic downturn a defiant flick of its middle figure, with reems of gorgeous fabrics wrapping themselves around the waify startled-looking models. The only sign of any conservatism was in the colour palettes of some designers - whites, greys, beiges and tans were common, interspersed with the occasional flash of blue or yellow. Christian Lacroix on the other hand couldn't be bothered with the beige, instead prefering a triumphant collage of colours, prints and fabrics with a healthy dose of bold accessories. Valentino offered a highly texturised collection, featuring elaborate scrolls, and beautiful teal and aqua hues. But the standout collection would have to be that of Georges Hobeika with its elaborate ballgowns in rich pastel colours.
