Is that a skirt or a cake?

September 10th 2008 06:26
Her bio says she's been designing clothes for roughly four decades, but the collection of clothes Betsey Johnson sent down the catwalk at New York Fashion Week this week suggests she might still be stuck in a children's fairytale wonderland.

I'm not sure exactly where Betsey expects a girl like me to wear the gowns you see here- clearly it's somewhere with a large doorway and plenty of open spaces. To the ball perhaps?

With a couple of notable exceptions, I like these clothes. Although I can't help puzzling over the hats....

Bit then, if you're going to frock up, why not go all the way, and make use of every last inch of tulle and lurid patterned-fare at your diposal? No one said dresses had to be practical....
