L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2009

It's been a while between posts, but we're back with a big one! Head for Threads was invited to LMFF last night to watch the Paris Runway Four show, sponsored by InStyle.
Nevenka – plenty of purples, polka dots, and flowing prints, combined with the blackest, chunkiest heaviest shoes (RMK) you have ever seen. One particularly skeletal model looked to be struggling to pick up her feet. My advice: eat, and grow some muscle. Semi- shuffling with a massive forward pelvis-tilt is not so attractive.
Manning Cartell – a couple of standout gowns - both strapless with sweetheart necklines, again paired with ridiculously chunky heels, this time from Aldo.
Thurley - Some beautiful hot pink gowns, but we're not entirely sure what the black balloons added to the outfits.
Lisa Ho – the feathered poncho that made one poor skeletal girl look like an ostrich was quickly forgiven, thanks to a breathtaking maroon chiffon gown.
Obus – by far our favourite of the night. Bold colour combinations of oranges, sapphire blues, mustards, and bright greens. A variety of textures and prints, gorgeous skirts in all shapes combined with thick woollen tights, and patent leather blues, which were again chunky, but much lower and much more stylised – almost cartoonish. Very cool. A real upmarket, homespun bohemian look.
Arabella Ramsey – plenty of bold reds and loads of cut off and torn denims combined with black suede boots of the knee-high fringed and ankle varieties.
Kate Sylvester – most beige award. Opening number was a tutu dress, and model did some gorgeous ballet moves (arms only as far as we could see) to accentuate this. Pity about the thermal underwear-styled leggings and bodysuits – a feature of most of the collection. Echhh.
Ginger and Smart – a close second favourite. Bold red, green and cream tartans shaped into military style jackets and loose, open vests, teamed with black skinny-leg pants. Stand-out item was an incredible billowing black coat – sure to turn heads.
Celebrity spots: Sigrid Thornton in the front row, Miss J from America’s Next Top Model pulling some highly entertaining poses for the cameras, and “face of the festival” April-Rose Pengilly in a jade-coloured harem pantsuit combined with purple suede open-toed boots.
Wish we could have stuck around for the 9pm show which featured the rather rad Fool.
